Re: Cancellation of 2023 Jonathan Bankhead Smash Cancer tennis tournament

 

       With a heavy heart, we regret to inform you that we have to cancel this year’s Smash Cancer tournament at Rockbridge. Because of a scheduling conflict with the club early on, we were expecting a smaller crowd this year. However, additional conflicts have prevented the majority of our loyal players from participating this year.

      The 3rd Jonathan Bankhead Smash Cancer event will return in the Spring of 2024 on one of the following weekends: April 19-21; April 26-28 or May 3-5. SAVE THE DATES NOW!!

      We thank all of you for what you have done to make this event possible the past two years. Player registration fees, along with a grant from the City of Forest Acres, have provided our operational funds for this tournament. And from the beginning, we have committed every single dollar raised and every single sponsor dollar to SCOA Cares Foundation. Not one dollar committed to the charity has been used to underwrite this event. In just two years, we have raised nearly $70,000 together to help those who are suffering from cancer’s effects – either as patients or caregivers.

 

      Thanks to your 2023 sponsor commitments, we were well on our way toward another successful year. Nevertheless, we will refund all 2023 player registration fees and all 2023 sponsor donations. If sponsors paid by check, we will return the check to you using the address listed on the check. If you paid by PayPal, we will refund those dollars, including fees. Please consider us again as part of your 2024 fundraising strategy. And we will welcome back our players in the spring of 2024.
