BOARD OF DIRECTORS NOMINEES

Owen Barker

My name is Owen W. Barker, Jr. and I am running for the Rockbridge Board of Directors.  My family (Wendy and Owen III) and I have been members of Rockbridge for several years.  I am a Law Enforcement Master Aviator where I have accumulated over 6000 hrs of LE flight time.  I have spent the last thirteen years as the Chief Pilot for the SC Dept. of Natural Resources.  Previously, I was a pilot/officer for the City of Charleston (SC) Police Department and an Air Interdiction Officer with the US Border Patrol.  Prior to my career in law enforcement, I spent 12 years in Higher Education Administration at Presbyterian College, the College of Charleston, Washington & Lee University and the University of Georgia.  I am a graduate of Presbyterian College, where I was a two-sport letterman in football and track.  I received a BS degree in History and PE and hold a Master’s Degree in Higher Education Admin/Counseling from Eastern Kentucky University.

As a life-long athlete, an avid runner and a midfielder on the Columbia Pink men’s lacrosse team, I enjoy the athletic focus of Rockbridge. It is my desire to see Rockbridge expand our athletic offerings to include more health/wellness options. There is no disputing we have thriving tennis and swim programs at Rockbridge, but I would also like to see us create a stronger sense of community amongst all members by offering more consistent social activities.  I am genuinely excited about the growth potential of our club.

Thank you for this opportunity to hopefully serve the members of Rockbridge as a member of the Board of Directors.
